established traditions whilst absorbing new customs, traditions,
and ideas from invaders and immigrants. Many Indian cultural
practices, languages, customs, and monuments are examples of
this co-mingling over centuries. Famous monuments, such as the
Taj Mahal and other examples of Mughal architecture, have been
inherited from the Mughal dynasty. Traditional Indian dress
greatly varies across the regions in its colours and styles and
depends on various factors, including climate. Popular styles of
dress include the sari for women and the lungi or dhoti for men.
India's national sport is field hockey even though cricket is
the most popular sport in India. In some states, particularly
those in the northeast and the coastal states of West Bengal,
Goa, and Kerala, football is the more popular sport. Indians are
very simple in looking. As the fourth-largest economy in the
world, India is undoubtedly one of the most preferred
destinations for foreign direct investments (FDI); India has
strength in information technology and other significant areas
such as auto components, chemicals, apparels, pharmaceuticals
and jewellery.
The music of India includes multiples varieties of folk,
popular, pop, and classical music. India's classical music
tradition, including Carnatic and Hindustani music, noted for
the use of several Raga, has a history spanning millennia and,
developed over several eras, remains instrumental to the
religious inspiration, cultural expression and pure
entertainment.
India offers a number of Classical Indian dance forms, each of
which can be traced to different parts of the country. Each form
represents the culture and ethos of a particular region or a
group of people. The eight main styles are Bharatanatyam,
Kathak, Odissi, Yakshagana, Kuchipudi, Mohiniattam, Bhangra,
Manipuri and Kathakali. In 2004, foreign tourists visiting India
spent 15.4 billion USD - the ninth highest in the world. India
is also ranked among the top 3 adventure tourism destinations.
