It is the largest and most
populous state in South India. The state is crossed by two major
rivers, the Godavari and the Krishna. An Andhra Kingdom was
mentioned in the Sanskrit epics such as Aitareya Brahmana and
Mahabharata. Continuous political and cultural accounts of the
area begin with the fall of the Mauryan Empire when Satavahanas
became independent.
Telugu is the regional and official language of the State,
spoken by 81.23 percent of the population. Telugu is the second
largest language in India. Andhra Pradesh is a mineral rich
state, ranking second in India in terms of mineral wealth. For
example, the state has about one third of India's limestone
reserves, at about 30 billion tonnes. |
